New Director Appointments

Following our advertisement for new SMRC board members last month, we are delighted to announce that John Duncan and Glenn Alcock have been appointed as Membership and Communications Directors respectively.

John brings a lot of business experience to the club having enjoyed a successful career in the motor industry with John Clark Motor Group, before more recently moving onto work for the University of Aberdeen, as their Operations Manager.  But John has also achieved a lot of success in motorsport; having started racing in 2016, John quickly acquainted himself with the sport, winning the highly competitive Celtic Speed MINI Cooper Cup title in 2018. More recently, John took on the role of Championship Representative for the SMTA C1 Cup, where his efforts have helped to develop it into the fastest growing championship in Scotland. John’s role as Membership Director will see him focussed on building member engagement and gathering member feedback, as well as generally contributing to the overall strategic direction of the club.

“I’m delighted to accept the position of Membership Director of the SMRC and I thank the board for giving me the opportunity. I’ve had a fantastic time being a part of this club and my aim is to give every member an equally enjoyable experience. I look forward to meeting all members, old and new, throughout the season and seeing how you all get on. It’s a real pleasure to be starting alongside my good friend Glenn Alcock as he takes on the role of Communications Director. Most of you will know Glenn as the man behind ‘SuperfastScots’. His passion for Scottish motorsport is unrivalled and I’m confident that together, we will do our very best for everyone involved in this club. Here’s to a great year of racing!”

John Duncan

Glenn is equally well placed to join the SMRC board and is a fine fit for the Communications role he is taking on. Most of the Scottish motorsport community know all about Glenn’s extensive efforts to support Scottish drivers, clubs and volunteers through his ‘SuperfastScots’ social media channels. Having been an avid supporter of other drivers in recent years, in 2019, Glenn made the leap into motor racing himself, competing in the inaugural season of the SMTA C1 Cup with West College Scotland’s newly formed racing team. As well as enjoying his first season of racing, Glenn carried out a number of driver interviews for SMRC social media channels and was a regular advocate of all thing’s Scottish motorsport on the popular Rocksport Radio weekly ‘Pole Position’ show. In his new Communications role, Glenn will be responsible for the management and development of all the clubs communication channels, as well as generally contributing to the overall strategic direction of the club.

“I’d like to thank the SMRC for giving me this opportunity, I am honoured and delighted to accept the role. My passion for Scottish Motorsport has always driven me to try and help and that is where SuperfastScots came from. In 2019 I enjoyed having an active role within the club through competition and my interviews and articles. The Communications Director Role is the next step for me and I am excited about the future of this special club of ours. I would also like to congratulate John Duncan on his appointment, I cannot imagine a more suitable person for the Membership Director position.”

Glenn Alcock

Both John and Glenn will initially be co-opted onto the board before being formally appointed later this year. We’d like to welcome them both to the management of the club and look forward to working with them in 2020 and beyond.
