Jim Redpath Retires as SMRC Chief Marshal

After a long and successful marshalling career, we’re sad to say that Jim Redpath has taken the decision to retire from his position as SMRC Chief Marshal.

Jim started marshalling in 1972 as a spectator marshal at Ingliston. He went onto become Assistant Chief Marshal with the SMRC in 2001 before progressing onto become Chief Marshal as well as joining the SMRC board as a Director in 2017. In this time Jim marshalled at no less than 22 British Grand Prix and at Le Mans three times. Whilst Jim has taken a lot of pleasure form his time marshalling, he feels now is the right time to stop:

“When I started marshalling in April 1972, I had no idea that 46 years later I would still be marshalling or that I would have become Chief Marshals and a director of the club.

This is not a decision I have made lightly and have spent a long time considering. I am conscious that as I get older, I will be seventy in May, that I am not as fit as I used to be and feel now is the right time to hang up my overalls.

It has been a great privilege and pleasure to have been part of such a great team for so long. I wish the club, my successor and my team all the best for the future.”

Chairman, Sandy Denham, praised Jim for his contributions to the club and thanked him for his efforts:

“Jim has been an integral part of the SMRC’s operations for a number of years now. He will be dearly missed by all of us and will be very difficult to replace. On behalf of the club, I’d like to say a sincere thank you to Jim for all his efforts and service. We certainly still hope to see him in the paddock in 2019!”
