SMRC Esports Racing Championship Round 1
Round 1
The opening round of the SMRC Esports Racing Championship took place last night (Wednesday 25th September) at Snetterton.
The 31 drivers who qualified for the championship took part in a thrilling 20-minute race around the high speed but technical Snetterton circuit, which was watched by over 1400 people last night.
Kevin Ellis – the only pro-rated iRacing driver in the competition – was in dominant form with pole position and a lights to flag victory. However, there were many close battles throughout the field including the battle for the remaining podium positions between Xavi Ross, Jack Eyre and Peter Butcher.
The racing was generally very clean with only one appeal submitted to the competitions director for review, which resulted in a 30 second penalty for car number 41 after contact with car number 15 on lap 2.
The next round takes place at Oulton Park on Thursday 3 October.
