2020 SMRC Season
On the 11th June we announced our plans to restart events from September (https://www.smrc.co.uk/2020-season-plan/) and asked competitors for commitment deposits – to be paid before 30th June – to enable us to establish demand across the various classes.
We’d like to start by thanking everyone who has paid their deposit and helped us with the planning of these events. We’d also like to thank our championship representatives for helping to communicate plans to all relevant drivers and generate interest. As of the 30th June, we had received the following provisional entries:
C1 – 21
Classic – 19
Legends – 12
Hot Hatch – 12 (11 Fiesta & 1 MINI Cooper S)
MINI – 11
Formula Ford – 5
Supersport – 2
The track time that we have agreed with Knockhill (for race meetings on Saturday 12th September, Saturday 10th October & Saturday 31st October) is sufficient for us to run 4 categories. In order to get as many people back out racing as possible and having reviewed the numbers above, the committee have taken the decision to amalgamate the MINI and ‘Hot Hatch’ grids (this will involve two split grids, specific details of which will be released shortly), to create an additional space for another Championship.
With this in mind, subject to sustained entries across the meetings, the 4 categories racing at the events will be as follows:
C1
Classics
MINI & Hot Hatch
Legends
Formula Ford and Supersports sadly did not receive enough support to enable us to schedule events for them and unfortunately these numbers have dictated the cancelation of these two championships for 2020.
These race meetings are not quite what we had all envisioned for the 2020 season but we are clearly operating in unprecedented times, where a return to complete normality would simply not be possible. As such, this is a temporary solution focussed on getting as many people as possible back out racing.
We will be releasing further details on the 2020 events over the coming weeks, including any updated Covid-19 Guidance, timetables and Knockhill testing information. In the meantime, if you have any questions about these race meetings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on info@smrc.co.uk
Otherwise, we look forward to getting back to some form of normality and getting our 2020 season underway in September!
