SMRC Ladies Day
The SMRC are delighted to announce their first ever Ladies Day to take place at Knockhill Circuit during the summer race meeting on Sunday 21st July 2019. The event will offer up to 50 women the chance to get a special free introduction to motor racing, including exclusive behind the scenes tours, a guided lap of the circuit with a female ‘Stig’, access to a full days Scottish championship racing action and the opportunity to take part in all women coached karting sessions.
The Ladies Day will be the pinnacle event of the brand new SMRC Women on Track Campaign, which was launched earlier this year to grow female membership within the club. The event will offer women the opportunity to take part in exclusive behind-the-scenes tours – led by Scottish kart racer, Lucy Grant – which will showcase the various roles the SMRC has to offer; from a race car tour with Williams F1 mechanic – Isla Mackenzie – to visiting the pit wall with our marshalling team and finding out about scrutineering with head Environmental scrutineer, Linda Hay.
Ladies will also be invited to go wheel to wheel in an exclusive ‘women’s only’ session on Knockhill’s very own kart circuit with coaching available from former Scottish Legends Champion, Carol Brown. You can also enjoy a guided lap of the main race circuit during lunch break with one of our female drivers who will talk you through the racing line and point out the basic techniques that racing drivers use to bring down that all important lap time.
There will be stalls from local businesses – such as a nail salon – for you to explore between the thrilling on-track action from some of Scotland’s best club drivers. There will be a number of inspiring Scottish females in attendance who have built a career in the exhilarating world of motorsport and will be available to offer advice and support to the next generation set to follow in their footsteps.
In addition to all this, there will be non-stop on track action throughout the day, with over 20 races including; the British Super Kart Championship, The prestigious David Leslie Trophy for Formula Ford, as well as all the regular Scottish championship action.
Entry to the SMRC Ladies Day will be FREE for preregistered women and girls. Accompanying friends and family members will receive entry at the concessionary rate on the gate. There are limited spaces available so please book fast to avoid disappointment!
