SMRC 2022 Season Plans
As we close in on the end of the 2021 season, our planning has already begun for the next years Scottish Championship and we have some exciting developments to share with you.
Over the last two seasons, the pandemic has obviously impacted the format of our events with a switch to half days, revised filming coverage and restricted spectator capacities alongside a host of other changes for all involved. We very much hope the worst of the pandemic is behind us and as such, we are looking much more optimistically into 2022 and our plans reflect this.
Firstly, we will be reverting back to our full day race meeting format which should provide a more relaxed day for competitors, teams and volunteers alike. The switch back to full day events will also allow space for our new BMW Junior Championship launching later this week. There is also further work going on behind the scenes, to introduce another new category to the SMRC line up as well.
We intend to release a six-event calendar for next year, commencing in April and running through to October. Dates will be confirmed over the coming weeks but provisionally, we can release the date for our away round next year; following the success of last months Cadwell Park event and having evaluated the feedback from those who attended, we are pleased to confirm that we will return to the Lincolnshire venue once again next year with a provisional event date of Sunday 17th July.
In addition, we are very excited to announce that we will be committing to live streaming our Knockhill events in 2022. With many clubs across the country adopting live streaming in recent years, it has become apparent that this will be the best solution to provide our competitors and commercial partners with the greatest levels of exposure going forwards. We will announce details of our media partner to deliver this service in due course.
Reverting back to this season, we can also confirm that we will be hosting this seasons annual awards dinner in February 2022; we are conscious that some people still have reservations about attending large indoor gatherings and as such, we feel delaying the awards from their usual end of year slot will allow more time for the effects of the pandemic to ease further and will give us the best chance of having an enjoyable and well attended celebration.
For now though, we hope you are as excited as we are about our plans for the 2022 season and we hope this announcement helps with your own planning and preparations as we go into the winter months. We will be releasing more details on the calendar and further initiatives over the coming weeks, so watch this space!
